Applying for a Job

I applied for a job this weekend. It was something I really wasn't planning to do, but when I got the email notification listing the details, I couldn't believe what a good fit it was for my experience. Below is a description of the job (and tell me it doesn't describe me to a "T"!) All I need in order to say "yes" is $60K/year and a Non-Exempt position (I'm a workaholic, you know). Think I'll get it? 4951 -- Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Technical Assistant LOCATION: Houston, Texas RELOCATION OPTIONS: Relocation will not be provided for this position. Local candidates preferred. CLOSING DATE: All applications must be received by Midnight CST October 14, 2005. The Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) Technical Assistant will report to the HSSE Team Leader and will play a significant role in providing support for a wide variety of activities to ensure successful HSSE performance delivery. Accountabilities Include:
  • Input district data into the Traction Incident Tracking Database in a timely manner.
  • Develop HSSE Monthly Scorecard and distribution.
  • Analyze and report HSSE performance data from Traction, Management of Change, Near-Miss Tool, Authorization's to Work, and Behavioral Safety Programs periodically.
  • Maintain training requirements in the database and monthly Status and Exception Reports and provide to management; District Virtual Training Assistant (VTA) Single Point of Contact (SPOC).
  • Develop Department of Transportation (DOT) Operator Qualification (OQ) Status and Exception Reports.
  • Act as custodian of district First Responders Information Packet (FRIP) with annual coordination of review and updates.
  • Maintain District Headquarters HSSE Correspondence, Training, Compliance files.
  • Collect and compile B-Safe calculations for field locations. Develop monthly Action Item Status Report from Traction and Management of Change records.
  • Coordinate district individual HSSE Action Plan program with quarterly status report.
  • Develop quarterly Water Strategy Report.
  • Develop, maintain, and post district OSHA 300 log.
  • Support or input of Near Misses, Incidents, Behavioral Observations and Audits into appropriate databases as requested.
  • Be a super user for the Compliance Management System database.
  • Coordinate the annual District Contractor Forum.
  • Coordinate the annual District Employee Training Fairs.
  • Coordinate quarterly District Environmental Safety Team.
  • Coordinate the Medical/Random Drug and Alcohol programs for the district.
  • HSSE website owner for the district.
  • Assist with the coordination of the annual Gulf of Mexico (GoM) Audit Program with development of audit schedule for Tier 1, DOT, Environmental Management Systems, and Compliance Audits and assist the field by participating in Tier 1 Audits.
  • Develop and/or conduct HSSE training as requested.
  • Design, purchase, and distribute team incentives and HSE incentives as requested.
  • Support emergency response efforts as needed.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for the role of HSSE Technical Assistant applicants must have:
  • Legal authorization to work in the US on a daily basis for anyone other than your current employer.
  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a professional environment.
  • Strong skills and abilities using Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities with database management.
  • Willingness and ability to make presentations and to facilitate meetings.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time of the time to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the required qualifications the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:
  • A minimum of an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree or higher.
  • 3 years of HSSE experience.
  • Experience using Business Objects software.
